Have you visited artist Mika Obayashi's installation, 'Gospel of Three Dimensions,' yet? The artist returned this week to add a few more columns to the piece, so you can now step into it a little more deeply. Stop by the Jewett Art Gallery and spend some time with the work!

This exhibition is open to all campus community members whenever Jewett is open, and to members of the general public by appointment (email spearls2 at wellesley dot edu!). It will be on display through Friday Oct. 28.

It was great yesterday morning to see Music department students and faculty perform in the midst of Guillermo Mena's installation in the Gallery! It was a beautiful collaborative moment that activated the artwork in a whole new way.

Art is happening! Visiting artist Guillermo Mena is drawing in the gallery all this week. Members of the campus community can stop by to see this work in progress grow and change each day!

Each quilt up right now in the Jewett Arts Center offers something different to examine and enjoy. The exhibition was curated from a massive collection by students working as Gallery Assistants this year, and they made some great selections! The quilt featured here has more pieces, by far, than any other on the walls right now, and is fully hand-sewn. It represents an immense amount of labor and patience. For those of you who are on campus right now, we definitely recommend spending some time in front of this one!

The first student-installed exhibition of the year is going up! Last week Arina Zadvornaya '24, Luna Patience '24, Sophie Sebastiani '23, and Rinako Sonobe '22 learned about these magnificent quilt tops (and how they arrived here at Wellesley College), selected quilts from the larger collection for display, and started to install them. More quilts are going up this week! On view for now for members of the on-campus community.

This is the last week for on-campus members of the College community to see 'A Trace of HERE/THERE' in the Gallery! HERE/THERE, the 2020 Senior Exhibition, was fully virtual. A Trace of HERE/THERE brings brief photographic representations of each students' work, as well as their own words, into the physical gallery space as a new way for those on campus to engage with the projects.

The show comes down next Wednesday as we begin to prepare for the 2021 Senior Exhibition install (happening both on campus and online)! Check it out if you haven't yet had a chance!

On view now in the Sculpture Court and the 4th floor crit wall in Jewett: final projects by students in ARTS 108 - Photo I! Students applied a variety of different photographic techniques to concepts they each developed for their final pieces. Members of the College community who are on campus are welcome to come check it out-- folks who are remote, and members of the general public, can enjoy a few photos of install day here!

In one of our last big feats before campus closed last spring, visiting artist César Gabler completed installation of 'Boston Pops (Toro Herrera)', an exhibition that took over the Jewett Art Gallery. The Gallery remains closed to the general public, but we are happy to announce that the Gallery is open to the campus community Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, for safe and socially distant viewing!

Boston Pops (Toro Herrera) combines personal histories with an examination of the larger social and political histories of Chile's military dictatorship, offering an instructive mirror as we reflect on our fraught political landscape.

In order to keep everyone safe, there is currently a 6 person limit in the space at any given time, and we ask that anyone visiting the Gallery remain mindful of their movement through the space, especially if others are present.

For those not currently on campus, we will be uploading more images and other material from the exhibition to our website soon, so that you can view the artwork virtually. A link will be posted here when it's ready!

HERETHERE, the 2020 Senior and Thesis Exhibition, is finally here-- and it's online, so everyone can see it! Our seniors were making work before the pandemic, and they continued to make work during it. We may not be able to gather together in Jewett and PNW to enjoy the art in person, but we were bound and determined to find a way to make sure their art was seen and celebrated!
