Join us for the presentation of Lewis Hine Pictures America, opening this weekend at the Museum of Wisconsin Art.

This exhibition brings together some of Hine’s most powerful and enduring images including photographs of immigrants arriving at Ellis Island, child labor, the American worker, and the construction of the Empire State Building. The exhibition is on view October 24, 2026 through January 17, 2027.

“I claim that the flower is a work of art.” –Edward Steichen

Join MOWA for the opening of In Exaltation of Flowers, gilded, large-scale paintings by artist and photographer Edward Steichen. A tribute to the lives of close friends and standing ten feet high, this monumental work reflects an Art Nouveau aesthetic not unlike the works of Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha.

Steichen was also a leading fashion and advertising photographer, serving as chief photographer for Condé Nast’s fashion and society magazines, Vogue and Vanity Fair. In Exaltation of Flowers is accompanied by a series of Steichen’s portraits, featuring notable figures such as Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, and Leslie Howard.

Join artist Heidi Parkes for a six-hour, hands-on workshop exploring quilting as a creative and expressive practice. Drawing from her approach to textile work, participants will learn a variety of techniques, including layering, patchwork, embroidery, and freeform appliqué. Through the creation of a 6 x 6 inch framed quilt, participants will explore how color, pattern, and stitched imagery can communicate personal experiences, memories, and ideas.
