This past Sunday, we gathered for an incredible hands-on workshop led by guest artist Rachel Brunhild! 🌿✨

Rachel is a Michigan-based fiber artist, painter, and educator whose work explores meditation, mindfulness, and the interplay of texture, composition, and color. Together, we brought this ancient global craft into modern Jewish tradition to practice hiddur mitzvah—beautifying the commandment—by creating unique, heirloom-quality Challah covers for our Shabbat tables. 🍞💙

Using Shibori, the Japanese art of resist-dyeing, everyone stitched, folded, bound, twisted, and clamped fabric to unlock breathtaking patterns. The best part? Dipping our textiles into an organic indigo vat and watching the magic of oxidation turn the fabric from bright green to brilliant blue right before our eyes! 🎨✨

Take a look at the highlights from Sunday’s class! 🎥👇

We are looking for community members and artists to submit work for our upcoming exhibition, ArtFULL, at the Janice Charach Gallery!

Juried by Rabbi Aaron Bergman and Bunny Kratchman, ArtFULL brings together treasured heirlooms on loan from community members alongside contemporary works by practicing artists.

From cherished objects passed down through generations to new works created for Jewish life today, this exhibition invites us all to consider how Judaica can hold memory, embody ritual, and connect generations.

We are seeking:
🕯️ Community Heirlooms: Meaningful, historic Judaica objects available for loan.
🎨 Contemporary Judaica: Modern artwork or ritual objects created by practicing artists.

To submit: https://jccdet.typeform.com/to/F0ZQ4Crd
Deadline: September 16

To everyone who has already contributed, shared a post, or offered words of support—thank you. You are the reason our doors remain open and vibrant.

Did you know that in Jewish tradition, 18 symbolizes chai ("life")? As we reflect on 36 years of showcasing extraordinary regional artists and providing free community access, we are celebrating double chai—a true milestone of sustained creative life.

If you’d like to help us build the next chapter, consider joining our $36 for 36 Years campaign.

Thank you for standing with us, celebrating our history, and investing in our future. 🌿

Created by Detroit-based artist, designer, and educator Jeremy Noonan, this installation features three large-scale fabric hangings... blending digital prints on rich velour and jacquard-woven fabric alongside a series of custom-printed porcelain bowls.

Jeremy has an extensive background collaborating with leading commercial manufacturers, he constantly explores how pattern, color, and surface materials intersect. Straddling the line between fine art and design, his work is rooted in a deep understanding of textiles as a medium for communication.

As Professor and Section Lead of Fiber and Textiles at the College for Creative Studies, Jeremy brings this boundary-pushing vision to both his studio practice and the next generation of designers.

FIBER ON THE EDGE exhibit ends Tuesday, September 2. Stop by the gallery to see the work up close! 🧵🥣
