This past Sunday, we gathered for an incredible hands-on workshop led by guest artist Rachel Brunhild! 🌿✨
Rachel is a Michigan-based fiber artist, painter, and educator whose work explores meditation, mindfulness, and the interplay of texture, composition, and color. Together, we brought this ancient global craft into modern Jewish tradition to practice hiddur mitzvah—beautifying the commandment—by creating unique, heirloom-quality Challah covers for our Shabbat tables. 🍞💙
Using Shibori, the Japanese art of resist-dyeing, everyone stitched, folded, bound, twisted, and clamped fabric to unlock breathtaking patterns. The best part? Dipping our textiles into an organic indigo vat and watching the magic of oxidation turn the fabric from bright green to brilliant blue right before our eyes! 🎨✨
