Our first show of the season starts May 19th! Sidney Gary, who developed his eclectic style using acrylic, oil, and pencil. His first art show was on the Cape May Boardwalk. Sidney has since exhibited his work in various galleries from the Jersey Shore to Florida, and throughout Pennsylvania.

Hi All--- In keeping with our philosophy that we need more art in the world, the schedule for individual shows in Art Space (at the Park Center Complex, West Cape May) for the summer season 2025 is now complete and all artists are in place for a May start. However, I have left July 4th, from 11--5, totally open for a "Pop-Up" multi-artist event. It will be held in our outdoor courtyard area and each artist will be responsible for bringing their own table and/or tent and/or easels, etc. Like all of our Art Space events, this is totally FREE to the artist with no fee or percentage--totally free. If you would like to participate, please send your name and a photo of your work via Facebook message by February 20th.

Free Gallery Space for Art OF ALL KINDS and IN ALL MEDIA
There are so many divisions in our world, but also so much shared humanity. Art helps us connect, so we need more of it. I'm opening up my small gallery, Art Space in Cape May (600 Park Blvd.), again for the 2025 season STARTING IN MAY and continuing through September. Like before, there is no fee, no charges, no percentage, no commission--it's totally free. Since our opening 6 years ago, years we've hosted more than 50 individual artists during our summer season. I've added the guidelines below. If you're interested in showing your work, please PM me or send an email to [email protected]. (You'll also find more photos on our page) DEADLINE FOR CONTACTING ME IS DECEMBER 15th. so we can begin to set dates. Because Of space restrictions we can only accept 6 artists, so be sure to contact me quickly if you're interested.
Art Space 2025 Guidelines
1. One artist at a time--or a small group if you choose.
2. The artist is totally responsible for setting up, hanging, displaying of their work. Nails into the wall are perfectly fine as other display systems. But the artist must be the one to make all that happen.
2. Two weekends but 10 days. (For example, Friday, May 24--Monday, June 3.)
3. The day after the last day all work must be taken away. In the above example the last day would be June 3, so everything has to be out on June 4th.
4. The artist themselves would be responsible for their own hours and personnel. This has worked out well in the past few years, especially when the artist created advertisements of all kinds. In addition, times can be posted on our page, Instagram, local venues, and outside our building on posters and blackboards.
5. An opening using the outside space is available and encouraged but totally put together by the artist. Some have had music and/or light foods and/or soft drinks and/or wine. Both the small inside space, and the tables and chairs and the large patio area are available.
6. There is no cost or commission or percentage of any type to the artist. This is totally free.
7. Neither Art Space nor the facility (Park Center/Raysun Property Management) can be held responsible for any damages of any kind.

Sunday (08/25/24) is the last day this season for The Poet-Tree's "blooms". It will go into a season of rest, replenishment, and deepening of roots until next July 1st. It will experience abscission (Isn't that a great word?) of leaves --both poetic and botanical. It has been our delight to help it bloom each summer season. Children calling out in excitement: "Mom can I have a poem?" Folks taking photos. Groups gathering even in the heat of summer, hatted heads bent down reading. Faces raised up smiling. Or crying. Our humanity is so very universal. It has been my honor to be a tiny part of the lives of so many as a kind of ambassador of words and ideas. I thank you all for that privilege.

Yes, the world has so many problems. So many unsolved, on-going, intractable problems. Yes. But, there are still poets and sculptors and painters and actors and designers and...oh so many skills and talents that folks share with the world. All sorts of creations, from paintings to new mathematical formulae, are rooted in the deep and abiding vision of a shared future. Every single one. We will all be absolutely fine.
(This is tonight's art opening at our art gallery, Art Space. The painter is my dear friend Victoria Papale whose extraordinary work is informed by ancient Mediterranean cultures. And lots of folks came out to celebrate her work and her vision. Yay for us all!!!)

Featured Artist July 19th- July 29th

Ceramic Artist, Susan Fox Hirschmann, has a lifetime of studies in the arts, clay, and design. Her return to Cape May County three years ago, has brought her new inspiration. These beaches, these paths she roamed as a child are now a daily source of inspiration: The sunsets, the birds, the butterflies, the ocean, the dune grasses, all are magic gems in her clay designs. Her very first art painting class, as a child, was at the Physick Estate, when her love for art began.

Susan studied at American University (BA) and Corcoran School of Art (Ceramics, Interior Design & Architectural Ceramics) both in Washington DC. Her work is in private and public collections worldwide and she has won numerous awards for her unique work. Susan's work has been featured and published in fine craft books and magazines. Her work is also in the White House Collection of Crafts.

Susan's "Circle of Friends" collection represents the hopes to unite us, as friends, but more to promote our shared humanity.
