“Fleeting Gulls” Greg Bennett Birds of a feather... an all-too-common sight on the shore. Gulls flitter, flap, fly, and yap. From shore to harbor, coast to coast, here, there, and everywhere. Some see a nuisance; Greg sees poetry. Come see it in WHAT THE TIDE TAKES, on view through June 22.

Join us Tomorrow Night for the opening of WHAT THE TIDE TAKES. Two artists, over twenty oil paintings, an evening of 🎨and 🍷 6-8pm.

“Mariner’s Moon” by Greg Bennett in Greg’s words - “When I begin a painting I usually have the completed painting in my mind, and sometimes paintings take many turns before the final composition emerges. “Mariner’s Moon” a 40” ×30” oil on linen was a torturous journey in paint, what started out as reasonably simple seascape where I had envisioned the light of the moon and dancing brushwork created by the turbulent waves as being the path of the painting. After a day of blocking in the painting I quickly realized that there had to be a bigger story to tell. Drawing from years of walks on the beach I let my imagination explore other avenues. The location of the painting is Corson’s Inlet, an area where over the years I have recovered several shipwreck timbers, these relics provided a tangible connection to the past that inspired other artistic imagery resulting in a childlike fantasy of sea voyages of the past. On this particular night I was joined by two friends, Holly and John. I think subliminally the three skeletons popped into my head as a way of recording the experience of celebrating the rising moon. The ship, solely created by the fog bank was introduced as a ghostly image returning for the lost Mariners as well as vertical interest to the composition.”

“Free Way” Oil on canvas PAINTING by Peter Quarracino This piece absolutely captures the movement of water with captivating accuracy. Such beauty in the blue that twinkles with the sun’s reflection. So much life passes through the free way of the deep. You have to see it to believe it.

“The Sumner Ave Jetty” by Greg Bennett This lovely piece is a favorite of ours, depicting an IYKYK time and place. There are many surf breaks along our coastal county, some held closer to the heart than others. This one, painted by Greg, clearly holds dear to his heart, and that love comes through in the brushstrokes and palette, creating an iconic slice of beach life.

“The Deep End” Peter Quarracino The elusive notion of what lies beneath the surface emerges through the figurative language of human anatomy. Here, in Peter’s oil painting, are echoes of Hockney and Hopper. Austere yet familiar, gentle yet vast. Representation dissolves into fields of color, where the figure becomes both presence and atmosphere.

Join us this Saturday evening from 6-8pm for the opening night of WHAT THE TIDE TAKES. 🎨🍷
