Established in 1996, the American Helicopter Museum & Education Center collects, restores and displays historical aircraft, chronicles the origin and development of rotary wing aircraft and teaches about their lifesaving missions. As the only helicopter museum in the country it focuse

s on the science and technology of vertical flight to educate and inspire all generations. The museum displays over 35 civilian and military helicopters, autogiros and convertaplanes. Visitors can climb aboard helicopters of all kinds for a truly unique hands-on experience. The museum is located in historic West Chester, Pennsylvania, where this nation’s rotary wing aviation began and still thrives today.

AHMEC is thrilled to announce that tomorrow, May 31, we will host Ms. Alma Bailey, a distinguished member of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen! Join us 5/31 for STEMFest, 10am-4pm!!!

Ms. Bailey was accepted in 1943 into the United States Cadet Nursing Corps. This program was conducted at Tuskegee University, Alabama, home of the celebrated African American airmen of World War II, with whom she shares an association. The war ended before her graduation, but she became trained in both practical and psychiatric nursing.

Cadet Nurse Alma Bailey was a recipient of the 2007 Congressional Gold Medal for her service during World War II and is still very proud to wear it

Ms. Bailey is still an active member of the Philadelphia Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen and women where she regularly makes oral presentations regarding her experience with the Tuskegee Experience.

STEMFest begins TOMORROW! Join the American Helicopter Museum and our amazing community partners May 30-31, 10am-4pm for two days of hands-on science fun!! There will be food trucks, science shows, helicopter rides on Saturday, and so much more!!!

STEMFest is THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY!

We're thrilled to welcome back Melanie of "PaperPie with Melanie," who ran a wonderful story time series at the museum last year!

With Melanie, parents can shop STEM books and activities for children of all ages! Sample magic painting, dough play, and jigsaw puzzles at the PaperPie booth.

STEMFest is a celebration of all things science with fun, hands on activities for learners of all ages! Join us May 30-31, 10am-4pm. Preregistration on the American Helicopter Museum's website is requested.

THIS WEEKEND IS STEMFEST!!

Our awesome friends from the Hagley Museum and Library will be joining us on Saturday May 30th with a fascinating sound experiment for families! Visitors will experiment with tuning forks and water to visualize sound waves in motion, then discover how vibration creates music using colorful Boomwhackers. This interactive activity lets learners of all ages see, hear, and feel the fascinating physics of sound.

Today's STEMFest 2026 exhibitor spotlight is on the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen!

The local chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen have joined AHMEC many times over the years, for book launches, exhibit openings, and many other special events. We are so grateful for the wonderful connection between our two organizations. The history the Tuskegee Airmen can share and their support and inspiration of the next generation of groundbreaking aviators are truly a gem of our community. Don't miss your chance to meet them and hear about their history and programs for the future!

More about the Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen:
The Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen is made up of persons who want to maintain the legacy of the men and women, black and white, who supported aircraft in the air and on the ground as bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and all other personnel at Tuskegee Army Air Field (TAAF) and other designated units or locations until inactivation on the 332nd Fighter Wing at Lockbourne Army Air Base (later designated Lockbourne Air Force Base). We include men and women, black and white persons who participated in the Tuskegee Airmen experience from 1941 up to 1946.

Our Mission is to honor the accomplishments and perpetuated the history of the men and women of the Greater Philadelphia area who participated in the Tuskegee Experience as air and ground crew operations and support in the Army Air Corps during World War II. We focus on encouraging young men and women to pursue excellence while introducing them to the world of aviation and science, paying special attention to those interested in aviation, technology and aerospace.

Today's STEMFest Exhibitor Spotlight is on pilot, author, and animal rescuer, Erin Murphy!

Erin Murphy, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner pilot who writes children's books AND flies animal rescue flights in her spare time, will be joining AHMEC once again for STEMFest on Saturday, May 30th! This is your chance to meet a pilot and ask questions, and get the inside scoop on animal rescue and how you too can help!

More about Erin Murphy:
Erin Mariah Murphy is the BiblioKid Author of Halfway Home. As an international airline pilot, a dog mom, and an affiliate with animal-rescue flight services, literary seeds were planted. she has been flying since 1991. Her Volunteerism expanded to ground support for air rescues after she adopted, Zeke in 2018. Advocating energized her writing about both.
