A lot of folks don’t know that I also do murals. I worked in New York City for 17 years creating murals, faux finishes and Trompe-l’œil for clients with a partner. When I returned to Central PA, I joined forces as a teaching Artist with Galaxy, Arts in Education, a partner with The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), now branded as Pennsylvania Creative Industries. I’ve created many murals throughout the 4 counties in central PA that they serve. This mural is at Glendale Junior Senior high school. I worked with Mr. Maneval and his environmental science classes. I love how everyone came together, the students and teachers to help create this.
Has anyone been to Prince Galitzin? This is the Lake! Here is some information about it.
“A Lake Shaped by People and Nature- The Story of Glendale Lake
Glendale Lake is a 1,635-acre reservoir created in 1960 by damming Beaverdam Run. It was designed for flood control, recreation, and wildlife habitat. Today, it is a vital part of Prince Gallitzin State Park, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and birdwatching. The lake’s 26 miles of shoreline provide nesting sites for birds and shelter for aquatic life.
Our Watershed- Where does Glendale Lake’s water go next?
Glendale Lake drains into Clearfield Creek, a major tributary of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. This creek carries water from our region all the way to the Chesapeake Bay. Along its journey, Clearfield Creek supports fish, amphibians, and forests. However, it also faces threats like sediment pollution and acid mine drainage. Protecting the health of this creek is essential for the entire watershed. The Impact of Industry- Why is some of our water orange?
Decades of coal mining left behind abandoned mines that leak acidic water into Clearfield Creek. This pollution, called acid mine drainage (AMD), turns water orange and lowers pH levels, harming fish and aquatic insects. Treatment systems and wetland restoration projects help neutralize acidity and remove harmful metals. Efforts to clean Clearfield Creek are ongoing, but AMD remains one of the biggest environmental challenges in our watershed.”
