📆 What are your plans for 2028? 🤔 💭

We’re thrilled to announce that Tierra del Sol will be working with Amanda Cachia () as guest curator for our upcoming 2028 exhibition, “The Material Alchemy of Disability”. The exhibition will bring Tierra’s studio artists into dialogue with disabled artists from outside our program, creating a dynamic conversation around disability, materiality, access, and artistic practice. 🌞

📚 ✍️ Cachia is a curator, published writer, art historian, and disability arts activist-advocate who has organized twenty exhibitions devoted to the work of disabled artists. She is Professor of Practice in Museum Studies in the School of Art at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, as well as Affiliate Faculty in the Disability Studies B.A. program.

“The Material Alchemy of Disability” will be developed in tandem with LACMA’s 2028 exhibition Art + Disability, for which Cachia is serving as a curatorial and disability advisor. Cachia’s guest curated exhibition at Tierra del Sol Gallery, on view in West Hollywood, will also coincide with the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We are so excited to be working with you, ! ✨ 🥳

🖼️ Faces as places as spaces 🌅

Tierra artist Catherine Benita () explores painting’s potential for expression, to manifest the interior life. 🌟 In this remarkable portrait series, the human face seems to transform before our eyes, with features flowing upwards🕴️becoming stone-like 🗿 glowing from within 🌞 or rushing like water. 🌊

These works can be seen in “Vessels”, a group exhibition on view thru July 2 at Tierra del Sol Gallery! 🛳️ 🏺 🎨

Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated. 💀 🤙

We’ve all been there: facing the hard things in life with a grin and moving forward, even with the knowledge that all good things come to an end. Yet, as is evident in this cheerful skeleton by Tierra artist Bill Marshall, a little humor goes a long way. 🤡 With this skeleton’s jaunty pose and knowing smile, it embodies that old adage, “many a true word is spoken in jest.” 🃏

This piece is but a part of over sixty works in the group show “Vessels”, currently on view at Tierra del Sol Gallery!

☁️☁️ May gray makes one introspective 😶‍🌫️🧘Tierra artist Daniel Padilla’s expressive line work comes thru in methodical layers of paint and markers. In this striking piece from 2016, Daniel creates a cathedral-like pattern traveling over a woman’s shirt in gray-scale. 🏢 The body becomes architectural, monumental: a porous vessel of thought, emotion, and expression. 💡🏺

This work can be seen in “Vessels”, a group show featuring thirteen artists, on view thru July 2 at Tierra del Sol Gallery! Swing by during open hours or check out the show online thru our Linktree.

🚢 All aboard! 🌊 Vessels conjure images of ceramic pots, containers, vases, but we can’t forget about sea-faring vessels!
