ure "Archives Room" contains many old photographs, new clippings, films, publications, tools and very special artifacts. As news of our endeavor spreads, the enthusiasm it generates and the almost daily contributions of "memories" have swelled our collection to one which we are most proud of and eager to share with everyone.

All Northern California Fire personnel whether full-time, volunteer, retired, a member of city, county, state, or private departments are asked to join and display your memorabilia or photos.

It is with great sadness that the Sacramento Fire Department announces the passing of Nurse Margaret Ong on Mach 29, 2021.

Margaret, a San Francisco native, graduated from St. Francis Nursing School in San Francisco in 1965. A passionate nurse, she used her skills in the Peace Corps in Bolivia and at several hospitals in the Sacramento area. It was at the Kaiser Morse Avenue where she found her niche in the Emergency Department - where she spent 25 years!

From there, Margaret was hired to lobby the State EMS Agency to amend the regulations to allow automatic defibrillators to be used outside the hospital setting. Once she accomplished that goal, she moved on to selling portable defibrillators.

During a sales call with former Fire Chief Gary Costamagna, Margaret encouraged him to start a paramedic program that would provide a continuity of quality care starting from the 911 call, to the arrival at the hospital. Margaret was then tasked with building the program. She dedicated more than 20 years working as a consultant and as an employee serving our department and our city.

Rest in Peace Margaret Ong.

Do you recognize any of these 3? One of them served for over 40 years and is a strong 91yo. While at an incident in East Sacramento these 3 youngsters and former FFs came up and asked if we needed any help. Always take some time to talk and pay your respect to those who came before you.

The late, great Battalion Chief Gene Dowling, "the Wizard" (retired out of B27). Back in 1967 while in L25, Dowling used a scaling ladder on top of a fully extended 100' aerial ladder to make a rescue. Dowling received the prestigious Gordon Bennett Medal after he made this rescue. (Thank you FDNY firefighter Phil Gordon for finding this picture from Joe Collica, L85 retired).
