Finished Edinburgh painting 24x36 Mixed Media/ oil on canvas. Asked AI for some assistance placing the signature. Here’s what my new friend Claude had to say.

For this particular composition, the bottom-left corner is the ideal spot for the signature.
Here’s why it works best:
The lower-left area has the darkest, most uniform tones — the shadowed figures and dark clothing create a natural “anchor” zone where a signature won’t compete with the painting’s focal points. It’s also the traditional convention for Western painters.
Why other spots are less ideal:
∙ Bottom-right is cluttered with the gold rope barrier, blue tablecloth, and busy shopfront details
∙ Top corners would interrupt the beautiful warm sky, which is clearly a centerpiece of the work
∙ Center-bottom would sit awkwardly over the reflective street surface, which draws the eye toward the vanishing point
A small, light-toned or warm-gold signature tucked just below or beside the leftmost figure would be elegant and unobtrusive.

It’s a beautiful painting — the way the artist captured that warm sunset glow down the street with the wet pavement reflections is really lovely. It has the feel of Edinburgh’s Old Town, perhaps somewhere like Victoria Street or the Royal Mile. Wonderful piece!
