Emily and I got back from a week in Rome. It was absolutely wonderful
though not something I'd do on my own. Emily was great on figuring
out how to get where.
There is no street grid system there but masses of people in the
street. We even stumbled on to a audience of the pope. The Sistine
Chapel was massively crowded but that
didn't matter as you could stay there as long as you wanted staring up
and around. Our other highlights included quite a few Bernini
sculptures which were mind blowing and
quite a few Carravaggios which are etched on my brain. The Trevi
Fountain also by Bernini was amazing in all respects including the
fact that it "grows" from its adjoining building.
Liquid marble. the Borghese Gallery was wonderful.

We walked 7 to 9 hours each day and our feet are flat. We had great
food and wine.

It took us 7 different modes of transportation yesterday to get from
Dublin and Clare Island. We are laid out pooped. Home looked good
but tiny after all we saw. Now that we know how to do it
we will next go to Florence and Bologna.

It was so warm in Rome, even at 9 o'clock at night: great for an
Irish traveller. I wouldn't go there in summer, too hot.
