Your chance to own a unique piece of history!
Head of Westport Garage hooked rug, silent auction item offered on Saturday September 19 during the Handy House Artisan Fair.
A vibrantly colorful hooked rug made by Westporter Steve Tripp, depicting the Head Garage as it appeared in the 1960s complete with gas pumps and resident dog! The scene represents the Head garage as Steve remembers it from his childhood. “It was a hang- out for the neighborhood kids,” Steve recalls. “There was a pin ball machine and a ping pong table inside the garage and a playground and basketball court at the back of the building.” All proceeds from the rug’s auction will be donated to the Westport Historical Society. The silent auction will end at 2 PM, Saturday September 19 during the Handy House Artisan Fair.

If you lived in Westport (Dartmouth) during the Revolutionary War, this would be style of your home! By the mid-1700s, the gambrel-roof style became popular. Three examples, Coggeshall House, 42 Reed Road Built c. 1710 by Benjamin Mosher. This gambrel-roof house was dismantled in 1976 by Anne Baker and relocated to 66 Williams Street, Newport, Rhode Island. Daniel Tripp House, located near 1504 Drift Road. Gilbert Macomber House, Built c.1750, once located on S***m Road.
