We place particular emphasis on modern emerging photographers employing traditional processes such as platinum/palladium, cyanotype and gum bichromate, where the hand of the artist is so much more intimately engaged.

"Glitter Gulch" was the 1940s name for the downtown area of Las Vegas. Glitter, because of all the neon signs that existed downtown on Fremont Street. Gulch, referring to the valley that the city exists in.

Today, Michael searches for the pockets of opportunity that remain, capturing the dream that is still being sold to us.

After capturing Las Vegas on large-format film, Michael meticulously crafts each print by hand to achieve an otherworldly depth. It is a slow, rhythmic process that breathes life into the image, telling a story that only the patience of the darkroom can convey.

Join us for wine, cheese, and a first look at Michael Massaia: Lost in the Glittering Gulch on Thursday, May 14 from 7-9PM! 🎉

Michael’s latest work explores a specific five-mile stretch of Las Vegas, capturing a unique type of melancholy he describes as almost iridescent.

The term “Glitter Gulch” was coined for downtown Las Vegas in the 1940s, highlighting the myriad of neon signs adorning Fremont Street. The “Gulch” refers to the valley where the city resides. Massaia's “Lost In The Glittering Gulch,” plays on this historical term, revealing how easy it is to get lost in this dreamlike landscape.
