History is alive and outside at Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson. Here Native Americans, Spanish explorers, French soldiers, English and Scottish traders, American settlers, and modern archaeologists have all left their mark. Frequent living history events showcase a recreated 1751 French fort, recreated Creek Indian houses, and the partially restored 1814 American Fort Jackson. A 3,000-year-o

ld Mississippian Indian mound, the William Bartram Nature Trail, and an early-19th-century house weave even more strands into this colorful tapestry of Alabama’s earliest days. What to see:

Today visitors can see an A.D. 1100 Mississippian Indian mound, partial re-creation of a Creek Village, recreation of the 1751 French Fort Toulouse, and the partially restored 1814 American Fort Jackson. What to do:

Park Grounds: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, daily

Visitor Center: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday- Saturday. Biking(Service roads only), Hiking (nature trails), Camping (Designated 39 - site campground), Boating (Boat ramp), Birding (park-wide). Location:

A reminder that the Visitor Center will be closed tomorrow for New Year's Day. The grounds will remain open 8AM to 5PM. RV campers can check in with the camp host after 4PM.

REMINDER: If you are duck hunting this season and plan to use the boat ramp at Fort Toulouse - Fort Jackson Park to access public waters, you will need to obtain a pass in advance by visiting the visitor center Monday - Saturday from 9am - 4pm. Please call 334-567-3002 with any questions.

*Hunting is not permitted within Fort Toulouse - Fort Jackson Park or adjacent Forever Wild Lands. Fowl hunting is only allowed on public waters.
