While responding to a call the rig took a hard turn and Captain Conaty struck his head on the bell of the Hook and Ladder Truck. He sustained a skull fracture and died two years later as a result of the injury

Please join us in welcoming Chief Michael Mire as he begins his next chapter as Wichita Fire Department's 15th Fire Chief! Coming to Wichita from Houston, Chief Mire brings decades of experience, proven leadership, and a deep commitment to service.

A U.S. Army veteran and seasoned fire professional, he has served in New Orleans and Houston, most recently as Assistant Fire Chief of Professional Development Command. He holds advanced degrees in leadership and human resource development, along with top-tier national fire service credentials.

With Chief Mire’s arrival, WFD begins an exciting new era and we’re thrilled to have him on board. Welcome to WFD Chief Mire!!
