Man down!

Another one bites the dust. Might as well finish this bottle kill with a heavy pour to warm me up on this cold and snowy day. 🙂

This first generation Silver Select was bottled at 100 proof and distributed exclusively through duty free stores.

Looks like I’m running low. Unfortunately I can’t restock as even the second generation has been discontinued. Silver Select was rebranded as “Single Barrel 100 Proof” in 2016.

In honor of today’s bottle kill, i present you with the The 2020 Jack Daniel’s Special Edition Barrel Proof Rye.

This was the first release of their Barrel Proof Rye I tried and my introduction to rye whiskey. It immediately became my favorite JD release. I’ve tried many other ryes since but no other brand compares to my love for this one.

I will say that IMHO, the Tanyard Hill Rye is even better. 🙂

This morning I got a text from one of my customers who also happens to be a Squire. He messaged me from the Distillery and asked if I had “any requests” as he was there with his family to do a barrel pick for his business, Icebox Performance today.

I knew it was a long shot but asked him to look into a Distillery Series 14.

At first he came up empty handed but as the day progressed, he made friends with the right employee and managed to score one for me.

I won’t mention the employee by name but if they happen to see this, thank you very much and a huge thank you to Will as well for reaching out to me this morning.

Incidentally, Will’s Wife Shelly is into BBQ competitions including the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational BBQ. She uses the smokers thier children build from their own small business, Sweet Home Smoker Co.

The amount of fake JD products out there is mind boggling. I see JD collectors getting sucked into this often. :(

This is the first time I’ve seen a distillery publicly discuss the problem.

This hand drawn sketch of Miss Mary Bobo hangs on the wall in one of the dining rooms at Miss Mary Bobo's Restaurant in Lynchburg, TN.

While looking at it I discovered something interesting…The artist’s signature.

The next day I bumped into Will Shavers at the Squire House and asked him about it. Apparently he sketched this while working there years ago.
