The Clark Our 140-acre campus hosts an art museum, library, and research center where inspiration abounds.
(1158)

Surrounded by 140 acres of meadows, woodlands, and mountain vistas, the Clark is one of the world’s most loved and respected art museums. Renowned for its intimate galleries and outstanding collection, it is both an art museum and a center for research and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark's campus includes the Clark Center, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando; the expanded and renovated Museum Building and Manton Research Center, reconceived by Selldorf Architects; and a redesign of its campus by Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architecture. The Clark library, open to the public with more than 285,000 volumes in its collection, it is one of the nation’s premier art history libraries. The Institute also houses and co-sponsors the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art.

Step into an Autumn afternoon with George Inness. A horizontal line of trees separates the hazy background from the foreground, where a woman and child gather firewood. Delicate touches of color suggest the season, while the soft, misty atmosphere gives the image a sense of stillness and peace.

At the Clark, the artists aren’t only on the walls, but also on staff...

If you’ve ever wondered who makes up the museum community, you'd be surprised to learn just how much creativity exists behind the scenes! At the Clark, artistry extends beyond the galleries. You might recognize Doug Holst, one of the friendly faces on our security team, in the latest issue of the Artful Mind. We’re always encouraging our community to make the world a little more art-ful, and Doug is doing just that!

Grab a pencil and come draw with us! ✏️

The Clark is changing, and you’re invited to capture it as it happens. Join us this Friday for the first session of Artists at Work: Drawing Construction, a new series inviting artists of all experience levels to sketch the evolving Tavitian wing construction project.

For this first session, we’ll head outdoors to draw en plein air and document the buildings and grounds as they look today. No art degree or drawing experience needed, just bring your curiosity!

Free. No registration required, all materials provided. Held rain or shine; extreme weather cancels. Details: events.clarkart.edu
