Governor Doug Burgum has declared October 2022 as ARTS and HUMANITIES Month. It says, "North Dakotans are encouraged to PARTICIPATE in arts and humanities activities and CELEBRATE the cultural and historical riches of our state."

The Governor is pictured here (left) with ND Council on the Arts Executive Director Kim Konikow and Humanities North Dakota Director Brenna Gerhardt. The backdrop is Dykshoorn Park and Main Street in Mandan, ND.

The official proclamation recognized that "the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all citizens; and affect every aspect of life in America today including the economy, social problem solving, job creation, education, creativity, and community livability."

I found my quilted heart tired to a tree outside of Z Gallerie in Perkins Rowe where I work. I noticed it waving in the wind and even brought it to my fellow co-workers attention, but decided that if it was still there on my break that I will go inspect for myself. And boy - what a delightful random act of kindness! I have been struggling with anxiety, panic attacks and I am currently in a phase of resetting my life from the ground up. I can’t tell you how much this warmed my heart and I plan of participating in this project to pay it forward!

In celebration of , the First Annual Williston Art and Seek will be held on Saturday, October 22.

The entire community is invited to join in the fun by creating a piece of art to hide, or by searching for the hidden art. Or both! The event will be managed virtually by the James Memorial Art Center. Details will be provided to participants online on a special page (James Memorial Art and Seek). Please follow Memorial Art & Seek for details and the official countdown.

The artists can post progress pics on social media and tag with what they are making prior to October 22nd, so the creations can be shared with all the participants who should also follow . On the day of the event, the artists will hide the creations and post clues and tag , so the searchers can start looking. Clues can be photos of the artwork in situ or verbal clues. We ask that you hide work on public property, outside only. Think public, human access! Please note that this is not to advertise a business, so no coupons or swag, stickers, etc.

Once the clues start being posted, the searchers can start looking! Searchers should be sure to follow to see clues. Once a piece of artwork is found, the finder posts a picture of what they found, tagging both the artist and . The finder gets to keep the artwork!
