RCHS Volunteers have been busy as usual!

As folks near and very far away drop off and mail artifacts to the museum, exhibits are always being freshened up. Sometimes it impacts an entire redesign of an area.

Do you have a small or large item to donate? Do you have a reference library item or a collection of history records for the library? We can discuss where it would be filed for folks to access it and help them learn more of the community, schools, businesses, military and families.

Focus projects in 2026 include the military exhibit area, a room with household tools and kitchen supplies, and the many factories and businesses tied to the glass industry of the county,

If you would like to volunteer, stop in on a Thursday 1-4 and ask a volunteer how you can help. Or reach out to Thursa to schedule a time at RCHS to help learn more. Off site volunteer opportunities are a consideration as well.

Winter Storm Fern has Randolph County, Indiana firmly in her grip.

RCHS volunteers will not have the facility open to the public on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

It has been wonderful to see neighbors helping neighbors in this time of need.

Be sure to continue being good neighbors and helping one another dig out of the storm, find warm shelter when the heat goes out, and provide a place to refresh when pipes are frozen.

Have no fear, as usual, RCHS has many volunteers near and far who will continue working on collecting, sorting and developing ways to help tell the stories of businesses and folks who have called Randolph County, Indiana home.

Folks often ask RCHS members about Stone Mansion.
Here is an update on some of the repairs being done.
When the current owner acquired it, overall the building was in poor condition and they plug away at maintence needs. The tornado damaged windows and the porch. It’s good to see a local business was able to help save this part of the home history.

The Stone Mansion is more than a part of a ghost hunters tour stop.
There are history tours they offer.

RCHS library has several reference binders on Stone Mansion and the Stone family as well as on The Infirmary, the county poor farm, located south of Wi******er which is another property under the same ownership.

Stop in on Thursdays 1-4 to review the binders and learn more of Stone Mansion and The Infirmary histories.

2026 at RCHS

Holiday decorations 2025 are slowly coming down across Randolph County, Indiana.

Volunteers at RCHS packed away the remaining greenery, bulbs and trees this week. A final vacuuming will have the museum reset for 2026.

2026 is off to a blast of a start with donated artifacts and references. New and refreshed exhibits are underway. Expanding library references and shuffling shelving to continue having binders easy to access by visitors is underway. Repair and project lists are being chipped away.

Mark your calendar to stop in on Thursday afternoons to browse the museum, look through some of the reference material and to find a way you can help on site or work on a research project off site.

Together we all make a difference in preserving and sharing the history of the places and of anyone who has been born, lived (no matter how briefly), died or are buried in Randolph County, Indiana.

Contact a volunteer at RCHS to schedule your group, club, class, friend outing, unique date, business break from the office or service project meeting at RCHS.

Help protect artifacts that tell the history of Randolph County, Indiana.

RCHS is a 100% volunteer, no paid staff, non-profit organization.

The halls have been decked and the carpets swept. But there is more to do!

To welcome a new year of exhibits and visitors to RCHS, the historic museum home and The Annex need volunteers to help polish wood and glass.

Stop in on one or all days the first three Thursdays in December to help return the sparkle to RCHS.
