Vintage Radio & Communications Museum of Connecticut Telling the story of communications
https://www.vrcmct.org/visit-museum We preserve the history of communications and the technology that enabled it.

We are a museum wholly supported by gate admissions, private donations, special events, and eBay sales. We have radios, teleprinters, typewriters, television, computers, telephone, telegraph, phonographs, and more. A lot of displays are interactive. We also have an extensive library set up for research and literature preservation. We also have instrumentation and test equipment.

Due to the forecast of snow and freezing cold for tomorrow, we are canceling the swap meet scheduled for tomorrow. We have already had several table reservations cancelled. With slippery conditions, it will not only be hard to get to the museum, but it will be hard for the vendors to get their items safely into the building. We will look forward to our next swap meet scheduled for April 11th. Thanks for your understanding.

Swap Meet at the Vintage Radio & Communications Museum
February 7th, 2026, 8 am – 12 pm

Happy New Year!! Welcome to 2026! The museum is excited about the new year because by popular demand we are adding another swap meet to our schedule. This means we will be holding six per year with the first one coming up on Saturday, February 7th at 8 am. These swaps are an opportunity for collectors of vintage communications technology and ephemera from all over the northeast to come together to sell, swap and trade from their collections. The public gets the opportunity to experience a vast array of communications history and tour the museum for free! Yes, the museum will be open all day for free. There is a small fee to set up and display at the swap meet. This event takes place in the Event Center at the museum at 115 Pierson Lane in Windsor, CT. It is a morning event so arrive early as the meet will be over by noon. The museum displays will remain open until 5 pm. For more information check our web site at vrcmct.org, look for us on Facebook or, call the museum at 860-683-2903

We want to announce that we have met the goal to cover the cost of the sewer project that was thrust upon us this past Spring. Through donations from Go Fund Me and outside donations, we have covered the cost of the main sewer project and the cost to get our building hooked up to the new sewer system. We will leave the Go Fund Me page up so that people who wish, can donate to help with the ongoing costs of the museum operation. Thanks so much to all who supported us through this challenge. Your generosity has been overwhelming to us.

Thanks again,

John Ellsworth

This piece was donated to the museum this week. It is very early but we can't identify it. It has NA-ALD k***s made in Springfield, MA' but there is no manufacturer identified. Does anyone recognize it? It does not look like a home brew.

The end of summer swap meet is quickly approaching on the 6th of September, and we have a fun and exciting day planned for everyone. We will have collectors from throughout the Northeast setting up to sell, swap and trade vintage communications pieces. You can never predict what will show up, from radios, TVs , telephone equipment, parts, and paper memorabilia. Our museum DJ, Dillion, will be spinning records, pumping out some great vintage music. The swap meet will run from 8am to noon. Weather permitting, we will be outside in the parking lot with vendors wrapped three quarters of the way around the building. We can move inside if the weather is bad. The museum will be open all day so people can wander though our historical communications displays. The event is free to the public. A small fee is charged to set up and display. For more information call the museum at 860-683-2903 or go to our website at vrcmct.org or check us out on Facebook.

149 years ago today Edison invented the tattoo pen… sort of. He invented the electric pen, a pen with a vibrating needle that repeatedly pierced paper as a means to make copies of documents. It led to the creation of the mimeograph machine. But the pen was adapted by others for use in tattooing.
