The AMTL will present a unique mix of historic displays, with interactive experiences to illustrate the workings and effect of Tort Law. The Museum will be a national repository for Tort Cases that Made a Difference, including exhibits on: Big to***co; dangerous pharmaceutical products and medical devices; unsafe industrial materials, tools and toys; contaminated foods, and many others. In additio

n to the exhibits, the Museum will serve as a digital clearinghouse for contemporary developments and judicial decisions of interest to scholars, media and the general public. Future plans for the AMTL include: development of national outreach and educational programming, including traveling exhibits; and a full-sized, state of the art courtroom where prominent lawyers will re-enact landmark cases for live and web-cast audiences. A word from AMTL President, Ralph Nader: “After you tour this first law museum in the U.S., you’ll likely talk about what you’ve seen with your friends, because it will resonate with many of their own daily experiences and, we hope, their past or future service as jurors. Also, isn’t it good to see how tort law enables the little guys to bring the big boys to justice for their wrongful injuries?”

A historic trial in Los Angeles County against artificial stone manufacturers concluded today with the jury rendering a verdict in favor of the plaintiff for damages in excess of $52 million.

Brayton Purcell LLP represented 34-year old Gustavo Reyes Guerra in a case against over 30 manufacturers and suppliers of artificial stone slabs, with many resolving before trial. However, Caesarstone USA, Cambria, and Color Marble went to trial. After a month-long proceeding, the jury ruled in favor of Mr. Reyes Gonzalez, assessing him $52,437,366 in damages against the defendants.

This represents a significant milestone in justice for stone fabrication workers. Gilbert Purcell, lead trial partner at Brayton Purcell LLP, expressed gratitude to the jury, stating: “On behalf of our client Gustavo Reyes Gonzalez, and our entire trial team, we want to thank the jury for their courageous verdict. Thank goodness for jurors and our civil justice system.” Partner James Nevin of Brayton Purcell LLP stated: “Since this is the first of hundreds of trials, it was important for the artificial stone slab manufacturer and supplier defendants to hear the message loud and clear from the jury – stop selling your deadly fashion products. The health and lives of these young fabrication workers are far more important than your profits.”
