Staff Announcement

After almost 14 years as Museum Director, Jared McDonald is trading local history for local elections! Jared is leaving the Madison County Historical Society to become the new Elections Deputy with the Madison County Auditor’s Office.

We thank Jared for his many years of dedication and service to preserving the history of Madison County and wish him the best in his new role. Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 10 immediately following Hill O’ Beans to wish Jared well in his next adventure.

Sadly another wonderful tourism season has come to end here On the Hill! We will open back up to the public on May 1st, 2027! Office hours during the winter are 9am - 4pm.

The Civil War guys and gals are ready for Day #2 Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. They are firing the cannon and marching this morning with the FINAL Skirmish at 12pm. See you then!!

📣 Heads up, Winterset! 📣

The Army of the Southwest is back at the Madison County Historical Society for the Covered Bridge Festival, and they’ll be firing MUSKETS AND CANNONS throughout the weekend.

💥 Main skirmishes: 4:00 p.m. today (Saturday) and 12:00 p.m. Sunday

If you live nearby, plan ahead for pets, livestock, or anyone sensitive to loud noises. Better yet, come out and watch!
