Mike Weaver Fine Art

Mike Weaver Fine Art Professional artist My interest in art began in my childhood. My paintings are currently in collections in the northeastern United States, Canada, and Germany.

Although I have always dabbled in art, my passion for art was solidified during the year I spent learning basic drawing and painting skills from Andrea Baker, an art teacher at my junior high school. During high school and college (where I pursued a science degree), art took a back seat to my studies. After graduation from college, I reentered the art field and I began to study oil painting seriou

sly when I was in my early twenties. Over the years, I have had the good fortune to study under a number of great oil painters, including Daniel Edmondson, Bruce Becker, Dan Gorman, and Barton Henderson. Their guidance has greatly influenced my painting style and has contributed to my success as an oil painter. I have recently exhibited my paintings at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA and at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in Wyomissing, PA. My paintings have been auctioned over the past several years for fund raising events for the Humane Society of Berks County, the American Diabetes Association, St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, St Ignatius Loyola School, and the Berks County Medical Society Fundraiser. My painting style can be described as impressionistic. My paintings are representational but not overworked with detail. Particularly with my landscapes, I prefer to paint quickly, to get the scene represented as quickly and freshly as possible. Although I may attempt to refine my paintings after the initial painting has dried, I like freshness of an alla prima method. I am an avid believer in continuing education and often try new techniques. I continue to study with as many artists as I can and have an extensive library of books and DVD’s. Continued experimentation keeps the oil painting experience exciting and fulfilling.

Elias has officially reviewed today’s painting and, after a very thorough nap analysis, has declared it:

“Peaceful. Quiet. Excellent sleeping energy. Would absolutely wander into this forest and immediately fall asleep by the water.”

Honestly, fair review. 🐾

This piece was inspired by those rare places that feel untouched by noise. Just light moving through the trees, water slowing everything down, and the kind of stillness you can almost hear.

There are two kinds of artists on a reference trip.

The ones looking for dramatic skies and perfect compositions…
and the ones making meaningful eye contact with a giant soft pretzel. 🥨

I think we know which category Mike falls into here.

Creative fuel comes in many forms.

Elias has officially added “art critic” to his studio responsibilities.

Today’s review included:
• intense staring
• emotional reflection
• one dramatic sigh
• absolutely no useful technical feedback

Final verdict:
“Would nap in front of this painting for hours.” 🐾

DOCTOR BRAIN vs. ARTIST BRAIN

Medicine trained me to look for:
• What’s wrong
• What’s missing
• What needs fixing
• The smallest details

Painting taught me to look for:
• What’s beautiful
• What’s enough
• What to simplify
• The bigger story

Strangely enough, both are really about learning how to see.

At this point I think it’s safe to say I’m already mentally living in October.

These small gouache studies are helping me work through color, temperature, and atmosphere before moving into larger studio paintings. The fields may still be green outside, but I keep finding myself pulled toward those golds, violets, and deep autumn shadows.

Sometimes the bigger paintings begin as quiet little experiments like this.

Summer is right around the corner and somehow I’m already thinking about fall light.

The long shadows. The cooler air. That brief moment when the fields turn gold and the trees seem to glow from within.

This gouache study was a chance to explore some of those color relationships before they find their way into a larger painting.

There’s a certain kind of beauty that only lasts for a short window each year.
Fields lit up in yellow. Wildflowers scattered through the grass. That feeling that summer is just beginning to stretch its legs.

This painting was built around that moment and the deeper you look, the more reveals itself.

This painting is still available. You can see more details here:

Elias has absolutely no idea what composition, edge control, or atmospheric perspective means.

But he is very confident that whatever is happening it might involve snacks.

Before a larger painting ever begins, there are usually smaller studies like this.

Quick decisions.
Simple shapes.
Testing color relationships and atmosphere before committing to the final piece.

Sometimes these little studies carry a quiet feeling all their own.
