New Fire Ceremony:
A Presentation with Maestra Patricia

Date: September 26, 2026
Time: 1-3PM
Location: TANA
1224 Lemen Ave Woodland 95776
You’re warmly invited to join us at TANA on Saturday, September 26, 1–3 PM!
Maestra Patricia has been sharing wisdom about the New Fire Ceremony, the most significant cycle in the Mexica (Aztec) tradition, occurring once every 52 years. After centuries of quiet practice, the community will celebrate openly in Mexico City in 2027. Ahead of that historic trip, Maestra Patricia will host a local New Fire Ceremony in the Bay Area. This presentation is to introduce the community to the New Fire and it’s also a call for support to help make it possible!
Patricia Juarez, Chicueyi Coatl (Eight Serpent, in the Nahuatl language)
Nahua visionary leader, independent Native Studies scholar, and technology professional from the Mexica-Tenochca Nation with thirty six years of experience in technology and twenty years of experience as an active practitioner and visionary leader within the Nahua and Xitontekiza Native Indigenous Traditions. She has been invited as a visiting scholar and lecturer to UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara and other similar institutions. Please join us for a special evening celebrating the creative voices of Yolo County youth. Empower Yolo, with the support of TANA, is excited to invite you to a special art exhibit and contest showcasing the incredible talent of students from Woodland High School and Pioneer High School. The event is inspired by the theme “Ending Sexual Violence and Promoting Safe and Healthy Relationships.” The exhibition and art contest will showcase student artwork created around these important ideas and invite our community to come together in support of their voices and creativity.
This event is presented in partnership with Empower Yolo, TANA, and CommuniCare+Ole, and features the After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) program and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Program, both programs of Empower Yolo.
Bring your family and friends and join us for an evening of art, community, and celebration! Students will also be selling food to raise funds for their activities. Beverages and other surprises will be available as well.
If you have any questions, contact María Elena Martinez, Lead Promotora, at 530-405-9243. We hope to see you at TANA!
