Colloquia Art Colloquia Art is a destination art gallery in Woodstock, Virginia.

10/15/2026

Colloquia Art is now on . Our partnership creates another way to discover the artists we present, explore available works, and connect with the gallery wherever you are.

Connecting people to—and through—contemporary and fine art is at the heart of Colloquia. This partnership supports that purpose: broadening our audience, reducing barriers to discovery, and creating new connections beyond our gallery in Woodstock, Virginia.

Our initial Artsy presentation features work by Zoe Baer, Christof Henninger, Harouna Ouédraogo, Marc Sirinsky, Lynn Ubell, Christian Vonarburg, and Cliff Warner with many to follow.

Explore the works and follow Colloquia Art on Artsy through the link in our bio.

A gallery can be ready for its next exhibition before we have absorbed what happened during the last. Our calendars often move forward faster than our understanding.

In While We Are Here, the new Colloquies essay, I consider how we make room for the present while gathering the experience of the past. The encounters of a year can reveal more when we consider them together, but that takes attention and a willingness to revise the story we thought we understood.

These questions grew out of writing a book about Colloquia’s first year. Called Openings, it follows the making of our gallery in Woodstock, the relationships that sustain it, and the courage involved in beginning again. I look forward to sharing more about the book soon.

How much can a place change without becoming somewhere else?

Familiar trees. An orange sky. Deep blue darkness. Light that reveals, and light that conceals.

In Solar Days, Raf Zawistowski explores the shifting relationship between nature, memory, and the person looking. A recognisable forest returns in changing colour and atmosphere, inviting us to consider what belongs to a place and what we bring to it.

What we recognise remains. What we experience changes.

Join us for the opening on 10 October. RSVP link in bio/on website.

Lorna and I competed the last calibrations today in advance of the Becoming Shadow opening this Saturday. Here’s a short video we produced on the opportunity we hope this show affords its viewers.

You cannot see Becoming Shadow all at once.

Three distinct video channels unfold continuously across three walls. While you watch one, the others continue beyond your field of vision. One soundtrack holds the room together.

Liverpool-based video performance artist Lorna Moore builds movement from still photographs of her own body. The figure hesitates, fragments, disappears and reforms. Shadow becomes presence. Repetition changes what you think you have already seen.

This is not a screening. It is a work you enter.

At Colloquia, we have always believed that access to art means more than simply opening the door. It means making the gallery a place where people feel free to look closely, ask questions, disagree, change their minds, and discover that there is no single correct way to encounter a work of art.

That idea sits at the heart of the second installment in the Anxious Alan series, Anxious Alan and the Great Gallery Adventure. This time, Alan and Sloane find their way into the National Gallery of Art, encounter extraordinary works, and return home inspired to create a gallery of their own, where every creature brings something only they could make.

It is a children’s story, but it also extends something central to the mission of Colloquia: making art feel less like a test of what you know and more like an invitation to look, think, make, disagree, and belong.

Anxious Alan and the Great Gallery Adventure, by Andrew and Sloane Ritcheson, is out now on Amazon in print and Kindle editions.

New in Colloquies: The Unequal Freedom to Make.

We often talk about access to art as though an open door were enough. But the freedom to make depends on far more than admission. It depends on time, space, materials, education, confidence, safety, and the belief that creative life is meant for you.

This essay grows from our wider Ars Est Sanitas inquiry into art, health, and human capability. If making can support attention, agency, emotional regulation, meaning, identity, and connection, then unequal access to the conditions that make it possible is more than a cultural problem. It is a question of who gets the practical freedom to create.

Thrilled to announce Camilla Fasolino and Hayes Conradi Koppelman as the artists selected for Colloquia Futures 2027.

I am equally excited about what comes next. Over the coming year, we will work closely together to develop the work, test ideas, shape installation, refine language, and build two exhibitions that are ambitious, coherent, and true to each artist’s practice.

I want to share that process as it unfolds. Futures is not simply about presenting finished work. It is about what can happen when early-career artists are given serious curatorial attention, professional support, and the space to push their practice further.

Camilla’s While We Are Here and Hayes’s In the Wind I Once Knew already open a compelling conversation around presence, intimacy, distance, materiality, and what human connection leaves behind.

Over the next year, I will share the progress, decisions, revisions, and discoveries that shape these exhibitions as we work toward something genuinely significant for both artists.
