Salisbury Mansion

Salisbury Mansion Salisbury Mansion is Worcester's only historic house museum. Built in 1772, Salisbury Mansion was once home to one of Worcester County's wealthiest families.

It was built as a combination store and dwelling for merchant from Boston, Stephen Salisbury (1746-1829) and his wife, Elizabeth Tuckerman (1768-1851) of Boston, and their son Stephen Salisbury II. In 1981 a team of experts were assembled to begin the Mansion's restoration. In 1984, Salisbury Mansion opened as the city's first historic house museum, owned and operated by Worcester Historical Museu

m. It has been restored to its 1830s appearance and is one of the best documented historic houses in New England. Thanks to the voluminous family papers, preserved at the American Antiquarian Society, it is one of the best documented historic houses in New England. Entrance to Salisbury Mansion is free with Worcester Historical Museum admission. The Mansion is open to the public Thursday-Saturday, from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM.
