The 1976 Bi-Centennial and Wrightstown Diamond Jubilee, of course, had a parade. The spirit of 1776 was alive and well in Wrightstown — patriotic, proud, and completely practical. Pretty sure this was Wrightstown Manufacturing’s float. Betsy Ross would have understood. In Wrightstown, you work with what you've got.

The 1976 bicentennial celebrated 200 years of the United States, and in Wrightstown, the festivities were heightened by the dual celebration of the Village of Wrightstown's 75th anniversary. We even had “royalty.” John & Bridget VanDyke were the oldest couple in the village, so they were crowned the Diamond Jubilarians. Peggy Burns was the bicentennial queen after winning an essay contest.

This summer, the Village of Wrightstown celebrates its 125th anniversary. Fifty years ago, the village marked the country's 200th anniversary — and at the time, Wrightstown itself was turning 75. The photo above shows the dedicated volunteers who devoted countless hours to planning that celebration, which was no small affair: a full week of activities, not just a single day. Many of these people are no longer with us, but their contributions to this community are not forgotten.
Now it's time to celebrate again! The Historical Society has been involved in the planning meetings, and we need YOUR help to make the August 15th event a success. The Wrightstown Fire Department is generously managing the food and drink tent — but they can't do it alone, and they deserve a chance to enjoy the day too. Please consider signing up to volunteer!https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4AAEA629ABF58-64053295-125yrvolunteer #/

People share their family photos with us, and we have the pleasure of "peeking into" people's lives to enjoy them. I, Anna, have always loved this one. I'm not really sure why--maybe because it's three siblings, Ron, Eunice & Kenny Buechler, sitting on the stoop of their father's business, Teddy Buechler's Tavern (1927-1958), which is still a bar (River Inn/The RIV) today.

I spent all winter digging into Greenleaf history and every single year money was allotted for a Memorial Day celebration. This was not one big party. It was a very patriotic event that not only had a parade but also many speeches from leaders and veterans, along with singing. I was only able to cover 1870 up to 1940, and in 1940 it was still going strong. We have this great picture of the Greenleaf Memorial Day parade and the newspaper clipping of the events. MWA= Modern Woodman of America, G.A.R. — Grand Army of the Republic, the Civil War veterans' organization for Union soldiers (1861–1866 service). By 1907 they were still active but aging, and the Equitable Fraternal Union, a fraternal benefit/insurance society.

Jennie Haase generously shared pictures of her great-grandmother's WHS class ring. 1925 graduate Jennie Hersey (later Jennie McVey after her marriage) wore this tiny ring. Yes, it's as tiny as it appears because the ring was commonly worn on a pinky finger.

Tonight, Wrightstown High School will hold its 110th graduation. So much has changed over 100 years but a diploma is still a diploma. 100 years ago, they were MUCH bigger in size. Here is a diploma from 1925 versus a 2025 diploma which was significantly smaller but fancy in its own way. Wishing our Tiger grads a successful and bright future---and never forget where you came from.
