Sign of the Wagon

Sign of the Wagon Sometimes Public House of Entertainment Hi, we're Pete and Lindsey. We use our home to showcase and document local and national artists and musical acts.

Being artists ourselves in the creative and historic city of Downtown York PA, we've turned the first floor of the house into an art gallery and intimate music venue. We host a few house concerts a month, and the walls are the home gallery for the art of Lindsey Keeney Richards as well rotating array of other artists. Sign of the Wagon also has an eclectic musical instrument/gear collection and is

setup to record local and touring acts. This is the home base studio space of Free Breakfast (the band) in its various incarnations. You can often find our actual wagon being pulled around or parked at other downtown York city venues where we're gigging. "Sign of the Wagon", is a reused (with modernized spelling) name from a business in 18th century York. It was suggested to us by local historian, Michael Helfrich as it had caught his eye during his research through old newspapers. See this announcement taken from Die York Gazette printed in 1796:

SIGN OF THE WAGGON. John Liebhart,
Respectfully informs the Public and his Friends in particular, that he now lives in the House lately occupied by ROBERT WILSON, in the Borough of YORK, on the North fide of High Street, nearly oppofite the German Prefbyterian CHURCH: where he keeps a Public HOUSE OF ENTERTAINMENT for travelling Gentlemen and others. Thofe who favor him with their CUSTOM may reft upon that every exertion fhall be made to give general fatisfaction. May 27, 1796
