Had a very good day in Johnstown yesterday. I went out to meet with Joe Hensel at Ironwood Artifacts to pick up three rolling mill stand patterns. The three patterns were from the Bethlehem Steel Gautier Mills, one is for an 8" three high stand, another for a 9" two high stand and another unknown three high.

After loading up I mentioned that I was going to stop by the Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center and take another look at the wonderful steel history exhibit there. Joe said that he knew the person that built the exhibit, Tom Leslie and then gave him a call. We all then headed over to the center and spent another couple of hours as Tom took us through the entire exhibit telling the back stories for much of what is on display.

It is getting more difficult to find people who are truly passionate for steel history and I am very grateful to have met both Joe and Tom. I will be back to Johnstown again for sure!

This twin tandem compound reversing engine was built by Mackintosh Hemphill for the Pittsburgh Crucible Steel Co. in Midland, PA in 1913.
