Art, for me, is a bit like falling in love.

It feels really good at the beginning but as time goes on you have to work harder and harder just to keep it alive. I like to think of myself as an "early adopter" when it comes to my voice as an artist. As a young person my parents exposed me to numerous art museums, famous cathedrals, and murals. I was mystified by what I saw. I tried very hard to understand it - to appreciate it.

Enrolling in the Ohio University School of Fine Art in the mid 70's when I was 18 years old was an auspicious beginning. The faculty there during those years were especially impressive. It was the library though where I began my education.

Only now, at age 63 am I working exclusively as an artist. My other career has fallen away. It has not been easy to continue working but I always somehow manage to get back to it. For whatever reason I need to periodically get away from strictly oil on canvas. The solvents though combined with my methods lead to problems with my hands over the years.
