Even so, the silhouette of the whole figure is decided right here.
This is the base that holds his quiet, upright poise.

生地に、型紙となる和紙を裏打ちしていきます。

水で薄めた糊を、和紙に均一に引いていく職人技。

人形の着物として仕上がったときの柄の出方を緻密に計算しながら、
何種類ものパーツを一つひとつ丁寧に貼っていきます。

The very first step in making a hina doll.
Washi paper, cut to the pattern, is backed onto the fabric.

Glue thinned with water, drawn evenly across the paper. A craftsman's skill.

Calculating precisely how each pattern will fall once it becomes the doll's kimono,
we lay down many kinds of pieces, one by one.
