👻🔔🇺🇸 THE BELL WITCH HAUNTING (1817–1821) — AMERICA'S MOST INFAMOUS POLTERGEIST TERRORIZED A TENNESSEE FAMILY, TORMENTED ANDREW JACKSON, AND KILLED JOHN BELL
For four years, the Bell family of Robertson County, Tennessee, endured relentless attacks from a mostly invisible, shapeshifting entity that could speak, mimic voices, and move objects. The poltergeist, known as "Kate" or "Old Kate Batts' witch," subjected John Bell and his daughter Betsy to physical torment — slapping, pinching, and pulling hair. It recited prayers, argued Scripture, and even sang along with church congregations. The witch disrupted John Bell's funeral in December 1820, singing b***y drinking songs after reportedly poisoning him. According to legend, even General Andrew Jackson visited the farm to witness the phenomena firsthand. America's best‑known poltergeist case remains unexplained over 200 years later.
