The colours in the photo of this painting are really washed out. I'm so struggling to get good images of my paintings. I know I'm not alone in this trial. But anyway, so it goes, I will try and try again, until I get it right. I'm happy with this painting, at last. The foreground was challenging. I kept changing and repainting it until what was in my mind settled on the board.

Quin Sculpture Garden will be open on Monday 27th - Freedom Day and Friday 1 May - Workers Day. We are free to work on those two public holidays. And you are free to visit us @ Quin Sculpture Garden, 5 Suid Str, Alexandria.

I have heard people say that they won't go to an exhibition or a gallery because they don't need anything for their walls, their art collection is complete. Visiting an exhbition is like going to a theater production; the artist has put on display a static show of their creativity; their view of the world. Its not like going to a supermarket.
So when visitors come to my gallery in Quin Sculpture Garden and comment on my paintings it is immensly gratifying.
Two sets of visitors recently admired my landscapes, saying how they could feel the distance and space I had caught, that the landscapes replicated the feeling they experienced driving through South Africa. And they loved the blues I'd managed to get in the mountains. They didn't buy, but to me, comments like that are gold. Thats what encourages me to carry on.

An artist is a business owner, a sole business owner. We are solely responsible for everything. We are CEO, CFO, HR, PRO, social media guru, event manager, inspiration researcher and the labourer. The whole bang shoot in one person. Most artists are not studio owners with interns executing their ideas. 99% of our time is spent on cha-ching to get by. 1% is inspiration. And some days in the office/studio, in front of the easle, drawing board or whatever your chosen art form is are uninspired. IT won't work, not your will to work nor the painting. Its easier sitting scrolling through FB and Insta. But, get off your butt you must, and face your demons you must. Some days its so disheartening when the results are not immediate. Somehow we get back up, because its what ends up making us happy, feeds our soul. We just must.
