The 37th Annual Sophia Gray Memorial Exhibition, presented by SAVAGE + DODD Architects, is currently on view at Oliewenhuis Art Museum.
Since 1989, the University of the Free State's School of Architecture has hosted the annual Sophia Gray Memorial Lecture and Exhibition at Oliewenhuis Art Museum. The series honours Sophia Gray, who is recognised as the first active professional architect in Bloemfontein and the first woman architect in South Africa.
This year's laureates, SAVAGE + DODD Architects, bring almost three decades of architectural practice to the exhibition. Founded in Johannesburg in 1998 by Colin Savage and Heather Dodd, the practice is recognised for architecture that engages with questions of spatial justice, urban resilience and transformation in the South African context.
Spatial Tactics offers visitors an opportunity to look at architecture not only as buildings, but as a way of thinking about space, people, cities and how our environments can change.
