School holidays. Nhambonda, Mozambique.

The power of the ball and the beautiful game whether it be in professional clubs or small rural village is enormous.

Here football is not just a game, it is the glue that binds village to village, team to team, tribe to tribe and people to people.

On view at Gallery F till 18 July 2026.

Most prints are in an edition of 10 with only two sizes each. Meaning that there are no more that 10 regardless of the two sizes.

DM or comment “Catalogue” to receive catalogue.

Huggovale After The Fire, 2006.
David Lurie

from ‘Images of Table Mountain‘ a photo essay that was published by Bell-Roberts in 2006.

In this series, Lurie looks at the mountain from multiple parts of Cape Town, using it as a way to think about the divisions that still exist in the city. While often spoken of as a symbol of unity, the mountain also quietly reflects the social and economic gaps that remain part of everyday life.

Table Mountain has meant many things over time. Once strange and unknowable to outsiders, today it speaks differently to the people who live around it, shaped by where they stand in the city and how they move through it.

These photographs are not about spectacle or grand statements. They are about perspective. About seeing familiar places from angles we may not normally encounter and recognising how separate worlds continue to exist side by side.

As David puts it, this work is his way of contributing to a broader conversation. Using photography to invite attention, reflection and dialogue around the city we share.

Available as a print.

A good visit at the gallery today with students from .

We spent time speaking about photography in its many forms, from documentary work and archival preservation to the role images play in fashion, culture and visual storytelling.

The students were especially interested in fashion photography, which naturally opened the door for to share from his own experience. This is where he really came alive in the conversation, speaking about the craft, the discipline and the energy behind working in that world.

Always encouraging to have young creatives in the space, asking questions and engaging with photography beyond the image itself.

“These images pay homage to Africa. They are a tribute to the forgotten, to the majority.

Every experience changes a person. And this project has changed me. I’ve begun to understand the true importance of football, which would have been impossible if I hadn’t lived through all the stories in order to capture the pictures.

Through football I think I understand a little more about life, or at least a certain way of living.

That is what I hope they will do for you.”

Jessica Hilltout

A powerful reflection on what football can hold: community, resilience, joy, movement and a way of understanding life through the people who play.
