The Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre is first and foremost a place of remembrance for the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust and all other victims of Na**sm, but we also engage in public outreach programmes about the Holocaust, human rights abuses and contemporary genocides. Opened in March 2009, the DHGC recently relocated to much larger and more sophisticated premises in 2011, and the mo

re expansive exhibition, media and seminar spaces facilitated our ever-growing educational program. In 2019, the DHGC saw over 4 500 learners participate in our three and a half hour workshops and we are continuously running educator seminars where teachers form across the province are trained in how to teach the subject of the Holocaust, a key part of the National Curriculum, to various grades. We look forward to resuming our on-campus workshops as soon as this pandemic is over.

Please note our temporary closure.

We are saddened by the passing of Dr Edith Eger (1927–2026), Holocaust survivor, psychologist, and global advocate for healing and resilience.

Surviving Auschwitz as a teenager, she turned unimaginable trauma into a lifelong mission of hope, helping others heal and reclaim their lives through her work and writing, including ‘The Choice’.

Her legacy lives on in Holocaust memory, trauma healing, and the countless lives she transformed.

May her memory be a blessing.
