The Studio “seed” was planted, by my wonderful friends Louis and Hardy, after attending a week of “Painting with the Irises” at La Creuzette, in France earlier this year. It then germinated and nurtured into a full grown plan of action at the instigation of my dearest friends Lynn and Andrew. She herself has already defied all the odds and her spirit is so big, I think it alone is inspirational a
nd it knows no boundaries. Her ability to see the best in everyone and focus on your inner strength is remarkable. So The Rabbit Room is a Studio situated on the main North bound road into George, opposite the Golf Course. In total, about 120 square meters of space that has been refurbished into a good working artist’s studio; with new windows, sky lights to take maximum advantage of the North light, proper wash up areas, good work stations with easels etc. There is a bedroom en suite for any visiting teaching artist and an area for meetings, presentations etc. It is a permanent art studio for myself, Lynne de Jonge, as well as a relaxed space where I can conduct my Interior Design Business. It will also be available for visiting artists who need a place for a sabbatical, a place to present launches, to run short courses in all fields of creativity, be they learning the art of art, literature, photography etc. It is a place of inspiration and a place that will hopefully develop its own character in time through the diverse talent of the people who visit, lecture, present, participate and share their thoughts and actions. The studio will be accessible by appointment only so will not be run as a permanent Gallery, rather as a special destination place where the purpose of the visit will be defined by the activity being presented. It must motivate, stimulate and instill a sense of wonder and appreciation as well as offer good debate, sensible argument and informed information. Quality, performance and design being the key words. Earlier this year I met the inimitable, Kate Turkington who reminded me of the “Art of Mindfulness” and I thought it was a fitting and appropriate title for the Opening Exhibition.
“MINDFULNESS” it is a group exhibition inspired by Lynn Gregory and the people who have inspired her. It is a celebration of life and the works will reflect that vibrancy, excellence and wonder of the world we live in and the friendships we have made along the way. Follow us down that rabbit hole into a whole new wonderful world.
