Limited seats remaining - book today to avoid disappointment.

What would freedom mean if Makhanda walked among us today?

The museum, as a custodian of our cultural heritage, invites you into a powerful intellectual mirror - to reflect, to confront, and to reimagine our present reality.

Makhandians, don’t just observe history.
Engage it. Challenge it. Become part of it.

Secure your seat now - don’t be turned away at the door.

Be there… or be².

🌿 Garden Gratitude: A Day of Restoration and Teamwork 🌿

This morning, a group of staff came together to w**d the garden at the Natural Sciences building from 08:30 to 10:30.

What a joyful and enriching experience it was! 🌱
We strengthened team spirit while exercising our bodies, clearing our minds and souls, and carefully restoring and preserving the garden.

It truly was a one-stop experience-wellness, teamwork, and environmental care all in one!

We also pause to remember the late Estelle Brink, who lovingly cared for this garden. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. 🌸

We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated and made the morning so meaningful. 💚

At 87 Beaufort Street (Old Priest House), next to Victoria Primary, we host the Devonian Ecosystem Project led by Dr Rob Gess.

Yesterday, while waiting for their transport, a group of children decided to go inside. The wonderful thing is that there is no entry fee, it’s free to visit Old Priest House. Our dedicated team welcomed the children, guided them through the displays, and shared fascinating insights about the fossils housed there.

Old Priest House is open on weekdays from 09:30 to 17:00, and entry is free. There are many captivating stories about fossils and the ancient life that shaped the world we know today.

Come visit Old Priest House and discover more about the life forms that gave rise to what we have today.

✨ Aspire Psychosocial & Educational Support Services Visit ✨

On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, Ms. Zimasa Burns-Ncamashi, together with staff and learners from Aspire Psychosocial & Educational Support Services, honored our Devonian Ecosystem Project Lab with a special visit.

Aspire, an NPO based at Tantyi Lower, runs after-school programs supporting learners not only from Tantyi Lower but also from schools across the Makhanda area.

For the learners, hearing the story of the Waterloo Farm Lagerstätte for the very first time was truly fascinating. They explored the world of fossils, discovered how different types of rocks influence the fossilisation process, and learned that our very own Makhanda is home to ancient treasures of global significance.

🌍 The greatest highlight was realising that our city holds such remarkable pieces of Earth’s history an inspiring reminder of the value of protecting and celebrating our heritage.
