Our Museums Are Getting a Fresh New Look!

We’re excited to share all the wonderful improvements happening across the Old Harbour Museum, Whale House, and De Wet’s Huis Photo Museum. From new welcome boards and upgraded spaces to cleaner layouts and fresh paint, everything is being done to create a better, brighter experience for our visitors and community.

A heartfelt thank you to the Friends of the Old Harbour Museum Committee for all your committed hard work. Your dedication truly helps us protect and uplift the heritage we share.

Here’s to a bright and inspiring year ahead!

We are excited to welcome our new Yeboneers, Liyema and Lisemi, who started their first official day at the Old Harbour Museum on Friday, 13 March! 🎉

Their morning began with guided tours through all our museum sites, led by our dedicated staff, Kgotso and Richard, who introduced them to the history and inner workings of our heritage spaces.

Later in the day, they joined Sonja and Zimkhitha on an outreach visit to the Enlighten Education Trust Aftercare Centre. Together, they presented the National Symbols Programme, with a special focus on South Africa’s beautiful national flower — the King Protea.

The Yeboneers already have lovely stories to share from their first day:
💬 Lisemi: “I liked it when Sonja shouted, ‘10 seconds left!’ and the kids would rush to finish the last bit of their activities.”
💬 Liyema: “It was so cute how they put their hands up and under the table when the time was up.”

Their enthusiasm, warmth, and eagerness to learn made their first day truly special. We’re thrilled to have them as part of the Museum team and look forward to all they will bring to our community! 🤝✨
