In this message, Tukwini Mandela pays homage to Evelyn Mandela, umama wosapho lwethu, the grandmother of our family.

We honour the women whose love became the foundation of generations.
The grandmothers who shaped the women who shaped us.
Whose presence became part of our becoming.
Whose legacy lives quietly, beautifully, in who we are today.

As August and Women’s Month draws to a close, we remember them all.
The women who came before us.
The women who made us.
We must carry their light forward. ✨

The world sang for Madiba long before it could see him.

In 1988, six hundred million people watched Wembley fill for his seventieth birthday. He was in a cell, and he never saw a moment of it.

Free Nelson Mandela, a new three-part series, tells the story of the largest campaign ever mounted to free a single prisoner. It tells it through the songs. Peter Gabriel wrote Biko. Jerry Dammers wrote a chorus that taught millions a name they had never heard. Miriam Makeba, in exile from home drew Gil Scott-Heron and Bob Marley into the struggle.

Dr Makaziwe Mandela is among the voices in the series.

Streaming now on Channel 4 in the UK. We will tell you the moment there is a way to watch it here at home.

Some memories are told. Others are drawn.

In the years after his presidency, Madiba turned to art as another way of remembering.

Through his own hand, he returned to places, moments and symbols that remained with him.

The Acacia Tree is one of those memories.

A tree. A place of gathering. A symbol of strength and resilience, of being deeply rooted while continuing to endure. Steadfast.

What began as something deeply personal to Madiba now forms part of the House of Mandela Collection, allowing these memories to live beyond the hand that first drew them.

And to be carried into homes, lives and stories of their own.

This is not simply art to own.

It is a memory to carry.

From Memory.
The House of Mandela.

Today is a reminder.

A reminder that Madiba’s legacy was never meant to be remembered only on one day. It was meant to be lived.

In this special Mandela Day message, Dr. Maki Mandela reflects on the values that guided Madiba’s life and the responsibility we all share to carry them forward.

His light lives on in every act of compassion, every choice to listen, every moment we choose humanity over division.

This Mandela Day, we remind ourselves of what we choose to carry into the world.

THE BEE
• The Bee represents the House of Mandela. It is the literal translation of our father and grandfathers name Rolihlahla; colloquially meaning, "one who is brave enough to challenge the status quo"
• The wings represent the many branches of our family tree
• In addition to his name representing courage, it also represents compassion and a concern for others.

“After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there many more hills to climb.” - Nelson Mandela. This quote resonates with us so much because that is just the cycle of life. Always teaching some lesson you had no intention of learning. We never stop learning and growing until we take our last breath on this planet.
