An unforgettable concert was staged in the Museum on Friday 20 March. Gustavo Romero, virtuoso pianist from San Diego, has an astonishing story. He was identified as a prodigy at 5 years, performed at 13 with the New York Phil under conductor Zubin Mehta - and was enrolled at the Juilliard School in NY by 14.
His charm, warmth and huge talent wowed us all. What an honour and privilege that he chose to make his 'Port Alfred Debut'!
'Tales of the Russian Soul' was the programme performed on Friday, broadening our understanding of the psychology, mood and cultural changes underway in 19th century Russian music. (for me, Rachmaninov's Variations, Agosti's Firebird - and then the encore - stand out.)
During Interval, for a glass of sherry, audience members generously made donations to Port Alfred's Inkwenkwezi Music Project.
