Technical tools are only half the story. The NSCF is redefining collaboration through Communities of Practice (CoPs) and "Café Conversations". By prioritising psychological safety and human connection, we are ensuring that best practices take root and flourish.

Contact Shaun Pieterse ([email protected]) if you'd like to try these out in your own organisation.

From "Manual to Metrics": How is South Africa revolutionising natural science collection care?

The NSCF has launched an open-access framework to standardise and professionalise the management of more than 11.7 million animal, plant, and fungi specimens.

Learn how these resources are bridging the gap between isolated repositories and the global scientific community.

New Curatorial Appointments at the Durban Natural Science Museum

DNSM recently welcomed two new curators to its Collections and Research team: Dr Dina Fagir, Curator of Ornithology, and Mrs Sindisiwe (Sindi) Dladla, Curator of Entomology.

Both bring valuable expertise and fresh energy to the museum, already leading new initiatives and collaborations across disciplines. We look forward to the exciting research, collections growth, and discoveries ahead! 👏

Celebrating a publishing milestone!

Dr. Terry Reynolds (ARC-PHP) has co-authored her very first book chapter on the parasitoid wasp subfamily Banchinae!

The chapter appears in Darwin Wasps of the Middle East, a scientific volume exploring the taxonomy, distribution, bioecology, and biological importance of ichneumonid wasps.

A fantastic achievement and an exciting contribution to entomological research — congratulations, Dr. Reynolds! 🐝🎉

SANParks hosted the JRS & Data Management Workshop

Hosted by the Savanna Research Unit, SANParks, at the Skukuza Herbarium, the workshop focused on data management and the new SANParks Biodiversity Information System (BIMS).

Key topics included data uploading, taxon masterlists, invasive species tracking, and Red List indicators — with a major highlight being the opportunity for the full data team to connect, collaborate, and share insights in person.
