"Life, Interrupted" curated by Maria Marais, poses a simultaneously difficult and enchanting question. Exploring this idea through the eyes of a wonderful group of artists has yielded a very moving exhibition.

"When life is interrupted - after the boundaries that hold us break down, after we cease to shift the air around us, after our final breath leaves us - what becomes of us?
Where do we go, and what of us persists? What lingers beyond our physical presence: the imprints we leave, the influences we have, the love exchanged, the spaces we once occupied?"

Please join us for the opening on Saturday, 6 June, at 12.

A visit to the renowned Artist Press near White River, never fails to leave an impressionable insight.
This past week offered a glimpse into the quiet, considered process of lithography - a medium grounded in the simple principle that oil and water do not mix. Working on stone, each mark and layer is built with intention - with patience and precision required as the image gradually reveals itself.

There is something deeply resonant about the studio itself, conversations seem to linger in the space. In the company of Master Printmaker Mark Attwood and artists Karin Daymond and Maria Marais, discussions unfold around the tactile nature of stone, and the evolving concepts shaping their new bodies of work, each rooted in process, material, and a deep sensitivity to form.

We look forward to viewing the final impressions.

An insightful evening of interaction between Michael Selekane and viewers at our recently opened branch in Hoedspruit, at The Art House . His solo exhibition ‘Song of the Day’ is currently on view and shows new oils and framed silkscreens, creating an intimate dialogue between his chosen mediums.

Thank you to all who attended!

Our table of treasures by Tony , has held a grounding role in the gallery for many years. This unique piece of furniture now holds a selection of Annalie Odendaal’s , barrel-fired ceramics; including vessels, vases and sculptures.

So if you have even been in our gallery, or seen photos, and complimented our wonderful table fixture, now you know a bit more about the behind the scene’s (or under the table?) aspect of the gallery.

A fine example of our vibrant arts community showing up for one of their own - a fitting exhibition title embodying the opening of our first solo exhibition of the year.

The cerebral presence of guest speaker and artist Ana Maria Nomico , as she shares her words at the opening of Annalie Odendaal solo yesterday. She poses a striking figure with her own artworks as backdrop.

This 4 minute opening speech is well worth the listen ✨

It’s not often you meet anyone born in remote a town as Aberdeen (Eastern Cape), let alone learn to know them, their heart and soul, and their artistic practice, over years.

Being raised in the Karoo brings a certain grounded-ness to Annalie Odendaal’s world. An instinct for resilience, of making more with less, a patience, a sense of humour, and a pragmatism too.

Such are the qualities of this White River-based artist and ceramicist, whose work displays just that earthiness, and so infused with her character. She presents her debut solo exhibition: Samevloeiing / Confluence, this Saturday at 12 noon.

Her longstanding mentor and friend, Ana Maria Nomico joins us as guest artist and opening speaker, all the way from Portugal. Two of her own works will be on show as well.

Please do join us as we celebrate this lovely occasion.

A highlight for us at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair this past weekend, were the immersive conversations we enjoyed with many of the gallerists present, some of which are close associates of the White River Gallery.

In particular the following artworks caught our eye - we would love to share them with you!

For those of you who have had your eye on any of the little, or large, gems artworks included in our current presentation - this is the perfect time for a last viewing ahead of our next exhibition.

Karin Daymonds prints have been popular choices and there are a few editions of some prints still available. These are beautifully packaged by the wonderful The Artists Press when delivered.

A few of our local artists and visiting artists are also represented.
