Roman Ondak‘s work ‚Passage‘ (2004) is on view at Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich Pinakothek der Moderne until August 15, 2027 as part of the exhibition ‚Between & Beyond‘!
The spaces we inhabit shape our perception, our sense of place, and the ways we move through them. As viewers, therefore, we never experience art divorced from the surrounding space. Under the title Between & Beyond, the Sammlung Moderne Kunst at the Pinakothek der Moderne presents works from its own collection that explore both the aesthetic and social perception of the gallery space. On display are paintings, objects, and installations from the 1960s to the present day, examining the fluid relationship between the artwork, the space, and the viewer.
About the work ‚Passage‘ (2004):
Roman Ondak handed out chocolate bars to the workers at a Japanese steelworks, asking them to create small
sculptures from the aluminium foil wrappers. The act of carelessly scrunching up the wrappers provided an
opportunity for creative expression. When the resulting miniature sculptures were arranged on a large table,
they revealed the creativity and diversity of the hundreds of people who had made them.
