Modern Impressionism with Colley Whisson

🎨 Learn from one of Australia’s most acclaimed artists this June!

NEAS is excited to host an exclusive workshop with internationally renowned artist Colley Whisson in June 2026.

Choose from:
🖌️ A 3-day workshop over the June long weekend — June 6, 7 & 8 at the Armidale Art Gallery Workshop Space

Working in OIL or ACRYLICS, students will explore techniques for creating bold, confident paintings filled with light and atmosphere. Topics covered include tonal values, composition, brushwork, colour saturation and focal points.

Colley Whisson is an internationally recognised artist, author, teacher and judge who has spent the past 15 years teaching throughout the USA and Europe. Now returning his focus to Australia, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a master artist closer to home.

Born and based north of Brisbane, Colley began painting under the guidance of his father, renowned landscape artist Eric Whisson, and has become one of Australia’s leading contemporary painters.

Places are expected to fill quickly — book now and don’t miss this inspiring opportunity!

A Botanical and Artistic study of common forms of New England Lichen with Greg Roberts and Daryl Albertson

This one day workshop will provide a botanical basis to help guide an artistic interpretation of local ‘Lichen’ forms.

A variety of living lichen material (salvaged from areas undergoing change and disturbance) will be provided as a basis for artistic study – to be guided by Daryl, and a riveting introduction to lichen biology by Greg.

Both Greg and Daryl have had long careers in conservation, making time for their art. “We feel 2026 is time to again share our love of nature in the craft of art.” Art background: Search Daryl Albertson – Artavita.com

For those with a long memory, Greg & Daryl ran a series of Art Society Art Retreats across local environs including retreats to Milani, Sunlight, and The Eastern Fall.

Materials needed: Works on Paper. A botanical art study of nature – graphite and watercolour. Please bring suitable paper and other materials you’d like to try.

Maybe: coloured pencil, ink, charcoal or combinations thereof. Please also bring a magnifying glass or jewellers watch glass.
