The firewheel tree sits at the heart of Gunu Baakandji artist Maddison Gibbs' work 'As Above, So Below' — a native species long used in Aboriginal healing practices and reimagined here as a symbol of gathering, regeneration and care for Country.

Across two monumental banners, botanical forms, sky knowledge and references to cultural burning come together in mirrored compositions that reveal new layers as you look, inviting reflection on the interconnectedness of land, culture and cosmos.

On view at Artspace until 4 October.

'As Above, So Below' was co-commissioned by Artspace and Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. The Banner Series is supported by Andrew Cameron AM and Cathy Cameron.
