Léuli Eshrāghi is an artist, poet, and curator of Indigenous practices at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, working across collections, research, cultural mediation, exhibitions, and relationships with Indigenous nations. Previously, they served as curator of the TarraWarra Biennial 2023 and was curator-in-residence at the University of Queensland Art Museum.

Eshrāghi is part of the curatorial team for the forthcoming 37th Bienal de São Paulo, and will be joined by co-chief curator Amanda Carneiro for this special event.

‘Curating Now’ is an ongoing program series that considers distinct curatorial forms of contemporary exhibition-making through critical case studies by Australian and international curators.

Amanda Carneiro and Léuli Eshrāghi’s research and travel is supported by the International Curators Program, which is funded by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body, and the Keir Foundation.

Join us for the third iteration of ‘Curating Now’ as we welcome Amanda Carneiro, co-chief curator of the forthcoming 37th Bienal de São Paulo.

Amanda Carneiro is a curator at MASP (Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand), where she has organised major exhibitions of modern and contemporary art since 2018. She also served as an artistic organiser of the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2024) prior to her appointment as co-chief curator of the 2027 Bienal de São Paulo.

Carneiro will share a presentation on her recent curatorial projects, before joining fellow curator Léuli Eshrāghi for a conversation reflecting on collaborative approaches to exhibition-making across different cultural, geographic, and institutional contexts.

Learn more about the practice of artist Heather B. Swann in conversation with Elspeth Pitt, Senior Curator, Australian Art, at the National Gallery of Australia.

Together they will discuss Swann's new major exhibition 'The Forests of Symbols' at UNSW Galleries.

'The Forests of Symbols' is an ambitious new project conceived as the first in a final series to be completed during Swann’s lifetime. Bringing together newly commissioned and rarely seen works in sculpture, painting, and drawing, the exhibition considers symbolism as a way of knowing the world.

Swann and Pitt will reflect on the ideas, imagery, and symbolic language that underpin the exhibition, exploring how mythology, allegory, and natural history continue to shape the artist's practice.

Join us to celebrate the opening of Remy Faint’s new exhibition ‘A Site of Unfolding’ from 4–6pm on Saturday 5 September.

‘A Site Unfolding’ presents a major new body of work developed through an ongoing dialogue with family histories and archival encounters.

Spanning painting, sculpture, and installation, the exhibition brings historical objects into conversation with new works, allowing contemporary acts of making to unfold alongside inherited material histories.

At UNSW Galleries, it serves as a metaphor for the deeply personal and joyfully collective worlds imagined and created by artist Jordan Gogos.

Tomorrow night ✨

Join us at Ace Hotel Sydney for the opening of Remy Faint’s installation ‘Afterimage’, developed through the 2026 Artist-in-Residence (A!R) program, presented by Ace Hotel Sydney in collaboration with UNSW Galleries.

Featuring translucent paintings on silk and site-specific wall decals, the installation expands the language of abstraction through layered materials, fragmented forms, and cross-cultural references. Responding directly to the architecture of Good Chemistry, the works reflect the rhythms of movement, conversation, and shared experience that shape the space.
