Last night we had the pleasure of celebrating with the artists and our community as we announced our 2026 Fifty Squared Art Prize winners. We're open all weekend for you to see the winning works in person, and to take in hundreds of other amazing artworks on display in this truly diverse showcase.

With over 850 artworks from more than 600 artists now curated and hung, the result is a vibrant and expansive exhibition, showcasing hundreds of works that span a rich variety of disciplines — from painting, drawing, and photography to printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, weaving, and more.

NEW IN THE STOCKROOM: JOHN GATIP

John Gatip's latest collection 'The Greenhouse' has just arrived at the gallery, and we think it's one of his best yet!
——
Punnets of small seedlings are sprouting within Gatip’s greenhouse. As winter approaches and the nights lengthen, he can only imagine the colours that would pop. Hundreds of seedlings and corms are sprouting and hardening off for the winter. The schedule is rigorous, slightly optimistic. He implements three succession sowing for each flower variety, ensuring a wide harvest window by November 1. This collection captures the colour palette of the flowers chosen to be grown for the big day.

The works of John Gatip span within the transection of art and architecture. He explores this through sculpture, painting and installation, developing a symbiotic process between the two disciplines. Architectural tectonics are central to his sculptures and paintings, where the boundaries of art and architecture begin to blur. Gatip’s practice often employs simple geometries, colour, and composition, leaving an anthropomorphic imprint of himself on his paintings. Likewise, his sculptures rely heavily on materiality as a medium for storytelling.
