SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AT HAMILTON GALLERY

The school holidays are here, and Hamilton Gallery has you covered with creative, hands-on activities for children and families.

Join us for casual drop-in art workshops at the CREATOR LAB on:
Wednesday 1 July

Session Times:
9.00am – 12.00pm
2.00pm – 4.00pm

Come along and create with your kids and have some fun at the Creator Lab together. Stay for one session or both, the choice is yours.

Can't make it to a workshop? Pick up a HG Kids Activity Book from reception, featuring engaging activities inspired by our current exhibitions. Explore the gallery with this fun and educational resource designed to spark creativity.

Please note: parental supervision is required throughout all workshop sessions.

HG ON POSTCARDS THIS SUNDAY

Hamilton Gallery is delighted to feature in a special Grampians episode of Postcards, airing this Sunday 28 June at 5.30pm on Channel Nine.

Join Livinia Nixon and the Postcards team as they explore the Southern Grampians and showcase the rich cultural experiences our region has to offer. The episode includes a visit to Hamilton Gallery, highlighting our collection and the exhibitions currently on display.

If you miss it don't worry , the episode will also be available to stream free on 9Now and will be re-aired nationally on 9Life throughout the following week.

We look forward to sharing Hamilton Gallery with audiences across Australia.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: IN OUR CARE

Do you have a treasured object with a story to tell?

Friends of Hamilton Gallery are invited to submit an object for inclusion in In Our Care, a special exhibition celebrating the memories, histories and personal connections that shape our community.

Your object might be an artwork, a family heirloom, a photograph, a souvenir, a tool, or something seemingly ordinary that holds extraordinary meaning. What matters is the story it carries and the place it holds in your life.

This exhibition will bring together a remarkable collection of cherished objects, revealing the diverse experiences, relationships and histories of the Friends who have supported Hamilton Gallery over many years.

Submissions close Friday 3 July.

HG TALK: Woven and Embroidered Textiles from the Silk Road Cities

Presented by Dr Susan Scollay, this event offers a rare opportunity to gain expert insight into the stories behind the exhibition. Dr. Scollay will explore the rich tradition of woven and embroidered textiles from Central Asia, revealing how cloth acts as a language through which histories are carried and continually remade.

Discover the intricate craftsmanship, cultural symbolism, and enduring beauty of richly patterned ikats, and embroidered suzanis, and gain a deeper understanding of how identity, craft, and cultural meaning were woven into everyday life across a diverse and historically layered landscape.

Dr Susan Scollay is an art historian specialising in the art and architecture of the Persianate world and in historic textiles. She is an honorary research fellow in art history and curatorship at the University of Melbourne, an elected fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and is a frequent visitor to Central Asia. Susan has been a contributing editor to the London-based journal, HALI: Carpets, Textiles and Islamic Art, since 2002.

NOW ON DISPLAY: Step into the world of one of Britain’s most celebrated landscape artists.

Into the Woods: Paul Sandby showcases a remarkable selection of works by the artist often referred to as the “father of English watercolour.” A founding member of the Royal Academy, Sandby played a pivotal role in establishing landscape painting as a respected artistic genre in 18th-century Britain.

Hamilton Gallery is proud to hold more than 215 works by Paul Sandby, including exquisite watercolours, gouaches and prints. Into the Woods brings together highlights from this significant collection, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty, detail and atmosphere of Sandby’s landscapes.

Join Dr. Samantha Happé on the last Thursday of each month at 12pm for an intimate 30-minute curator’s talk.

JUNE: Sandby and the Picturesque Landscape
Thursday 25 June, 12 PM

Explore how Paul Sandby shaped landscape through Caesar’s Tower and part of Warwick Tower from the Island (1801), a major watercolour in the Hamilton Gallery collection. This talk examines Sandby’s compositional methods and considers a possible precursor work now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
