Join us in the cinema for two screenings of works from artist and filmmaker, Riar Rizaldi. Based in Indonesia, Rizaldi's artistic practice explores the intersections of science, technology, labour, ecology and belief.

On Mon 26 Oct, we will be screening EXTRACTIVISM & ANCESTRY, a selection of short films curated by our key partner Multicultural Arts Victoria, examining how state-backed technology and capital continue to exploit the earth and dictate reality.

On Tue 27 Oct, we will be screening MONISME, a film exploring the dynamic of human-nature relationship in one of the most active stratovolcano in the world, Mount Merapi. There will be a post-screening conversation with director Riar Rizaldi.

THE STRANGER follows Meursault, a young, seemingly indifferent Frenchman living in 1940s Algiers, who is on trial for the inexplicable murder of an Arab local. A pointed look at the corrosive nature of colonialism and apathy, catch it in our matinee sessions.

In ZOO, Frederick Wiseman leads us through the inner workings of the Miami Metrozoo.

Opening with a circus-like performance of three elephants and a whip-wielding trainer to the delight of onlookers, the film swiftly shifts to what takes place out of the public view – a decidedly darker place, bereft of the childhood wonder we commonly associate with zoos.
